Imagine a gift that generates no guilt and that doesn’t get thrown away. It takes up no space in your home. It requires no dusting or laundering. It has no harmful chemicals or dyes, nor much of a carbon footprint. You needn’t guess anyone’s size. There’s no gift receipt, box or wrapping paper. On top of all that, it offers an overall sense of goodwill. This gift is the gift of donating to a good cause this Giving Tuesday.
Giving Tuesday was founded in 2012 by New York’s 92nd Street Y, in partnership with the United Nations Foundation, and has gone on to raise $1 billion online in the U.S. alone for nonprofits, organizations and individuals all around the globe. This is the first year that The New Fashion Initiative has participated in Giving Tuesday. The goal is to raise $25,000 for our programming.
Here at The New Fashion Initiative (TNFI), we exist to help educate and work together with other organizations to create more accountability and collaboration within fashion. We create powerful content to stimulate conversations about the fashion industry. We fight for policy change. We believe that we can help create systemic change. In our first year, TNFI brought hundreds of people together for events, panels, and social media campaigns to learn about fashion’s impact on people and the planet. Here are some of our accomplishments from 2019:
We collaborated with dozens of leading sustainable fashion innovators, community groups, and non-profits including Ellen MacArthur Foundation, Rethink Food NYC, MadeinNY, DonateNYC, GoodStuff and FabScrap.
And we launched the first Sustainable Laundry Week showing how to have less impactful laundry habits.
One of the ways that you as an individual can help is by supporting TNFI this Giving Tuesday. Give here.
