GCU Speaker Series
A visiting lecture series where members of our Advisory Council speak to students enrolled in Glasgow Caledonian New York College’s International Fashion Marketing graduate program. GCNYC is home to the Fair Fashion Center, which uses integrated fashion marketing and strategy as a force for good.
As a result of COVID-19, TNFI has transitioned to an online workshop structure to continue its mission of promoting interdisciplinary solutions and leadership training to address the environmental and social issues facing the fashion industry. Speakers including Dana Davis, Vice President of Sustainability, Product, and Business Strategy at Mara Hoffman, and Ed Kavishe, founder and owner of Fashion Wire Press.
Supporting Garment Workers
The New Fashion Initiative helped create www.supportgarmentworkers.org to advance the #PayUp campaign and to point people to non-profits giving directly to garment workers. #PayUp has resulted in dozens of brands agreeing to pay for completed and contracted orders that were impacted by COVID-19. COVID-19 Mask Projects
TNFI led early conversations about rallying the resources of the garment industry to support front line workers during COVID-19. We are proud of our collaboration with Masks4Humanity and the #MaskUpProject to help organizations and businesses get the masks that they need.
For this collaboration with Fashion of Tomorrow, we share facts about the legislative landscape that impacts the fashion industry. Throughout this series, we will be discussing international recommendations, national laws, local regulations, and the groups working to change these policies. As an educational, 501c3 non-profit, we can’t lobby for these laws to be changed, but we hope that we can educate folks about what is currently in place and where there are gaps!
